A Little About Me...
Education
I completed my bachelor of Social Work from Carleton University and obtained my Masters of Social Work from McGill University. My published thesis is entitled: “Early Adolescent Experiences of Friendships, Peer Relations and Stress”.
I have additional training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Narrative therapy, Solution Focused therapy, suicide intervention training (C.M.H.A) as well as a number of trainings addressing the treatment of children and youth experiencing anxiety and depression. At the same time, I have completed teaching and learning trainings from the department of teaching and Learning at Georgian College. I am continuously seeking additional learning and development opportunities in the field.
Experience
I am a Sessional Professor and Faculty Consultant for the Laurentian University School of Social Work at Georgian College.
I have 15 years of experience in the mental health field, counselling children, youth, individuals, families and seniors. I’ve worked in residential settings, clinical settings, and schools. I’ve run a variety of groups and offered presentations in the community which included co-developing a Cognitive Behavioral Therapeutic group in schools to address Social Anxiety . I’ve also co-created a highly interactive presentation focusing on depression using a game show format. I have experience working with the Barrie Family Health Team providing mental health services for patients referred by their family physician or Nurse Practitioner. In this capacity I worked within a multidisciplinary team. I also co-developed and co-facilitated psycho educational groups focussing on anxiety.
I am a member in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers. I am also a member of the Ontario Association of Social Workers.
